Forage (Los Angeles, CA)

What to eat, what to eat…

When it comes to vegetarian eating in Los Angeles, I’m sorry to say, omnivore restaurants reign supreme. Incredibly fresh, resourceful and delicious, I’m smitten with Forage in Silver Lake’s vegetable dishes.  A generous plate of three sides runs $11.50. When making choices, let your eyes guide you. The elegantly displayed selections speak for themselves. But if you want a some assistance, here’s a guide to my favorite plate:

Apparently I like purple food…

Roasted Beets with Citrus, and Ricotta Salata: They belong together. Sweet citrus emphasize the earthy notes of the rooty beets. The salty cheese rounds both out. If I were making this dish, I’d add roasted hazelnuts for crunch… but that’s just this girl’s opinion.

Gloria’s Broccoli: Crisp and green, these lightly cooked spears of broccoli are tossed with delicate slivers of shallots, garlic, and chili. They’re savory and packed with heat and a sharp bite!

Crostinis: This is my favorite option. The crostinis are usually layered with cheese, fruit and nuts. I’m continuously drawn to the Date Jam with Ricotta and Hazelnuts or the Goat Cheese with Roasted Grapes and Walnuts. If they have both of them, I’m happy to pay the extra few dollars to have two.
